That consistency is where the book earns its second mark, in Genre Execution. This is not literary fiction reaching for ambiguity; it's a wish-fulfillment political fable, and Brandt hits its required beats without skipping any — the disillusioned electorate, the corrupt duopoly embodied in Jameson and Woodbright, the folksy parody song ("if this election has got you seeing red, then just write in the name, Jake Kilthread"), the pastor's blessing, the family's unwavering support. Readers who pick this book up for its premise — an earnest, faith-and-family-inflected fantasy of an honest outsider breaking the two-party grip — get exactly what they came for, delivered without cynicism or hedging. The prose is often overworked and the dialogue frequently stilted, but the shape of the story does what it promises on the cover, and that promise is a genuinely marketable one.
